SCAM CALLERS TARGETING YAVAPAI COUNTY

YAVAPAI COUNTY, ARIZONA –

The Superior Court in Yavapai County is alerting residents about rising levels of phone call scams, in which individuals posing as local court staff or law enforcement officials are calling members of the public and falsely claiming they have failed to appear for jury duty. These scammers are using fear tactics, including threats of immediate arrest, to pressure residents into making payments over the phone.

The Court has received multiple reports of residents being told that they must pay a fine to avoid a warrant for their arrest. In some cases, callers have falsely identified themselves as Yavapai County Sheriff Deputies or Yavapai County Court staff and may even use other official sounding titles and terminology. These callers often demand credit card and financial information or require a bond and warrant insurance to be purchased. Some may even leave voicemails urging residents to call back immediately to avoid further penalties. These scams are convincing and intimidating, and they are entirely fraudulent.

The Yavapai County Superior Court uses U.S. mail for jury correspondence and does not call residents to collect payments for missing jury duty under any circumstances. Individuals who encounter these fraudulent calls are encouraged to not engage, hang up immediately, and report it to local law enforcement. The Yavapai County Superior Court is committed to protecting the public from fraud and ensuring confidence in our justice system. If you believe you have been targeted by a jury scam, report it and help prevent further victimization. For accurate information about jury duty please call 928-777-3022 (Downtown Prescott), 928-771-3102 (County Justice Center), 928-554-8938 (Camp Verde), or visit our official website at https://courts.yavapaiaz.gov/Jury-Duty
