DEBRA PHELAN APPOINTED TO DIVISION 8

JUDGE PRO TEMPORE POSITION ANNOUNCED

YAVAPAI COUNTY, ARIZONA – Governor Katie Hobbs has selected the Honorable Debra Phelan to serve in the Eighth Division of the Superior Court of Arizona in Yavapai County. Four applicants were interviewed on Monday, June 19, 2023, in the Historic Courtroom of the Prescott Courthouse. Of those applicants, the Governor’s staff recommended three finalists to be interviewed by Governor Hobbs on Thursday, June 29, 2023. Judge Debra Phelan said, “It has been my privilege and honor to serve the citizens of Yavapai County this past four and a half years as a judge pro tem. I look forward to furthering that service now as the Judge of Division Eight in Yavapai County Superior Court. I would also like to thank Governor Hobbs for appointing me to this position.”

The appointment of Judge Phelan to Division Eight creates a vacancy for the judge pro tempore position for Division Pro Tem A of the Yavapai County Superior Court. The judge pro tempore will be appointed by the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court upon the request of the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court and subject to the approval of the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, in accordance with Article VI, Section 31, of the Constitution of the State of Arizona, and ARS §12-141. The Judge Pro Tempore assignment is in the Prescott Judicial District at the Superior Court in downtown Prescott.
